Description

The Data Mining and Simulation (MIDAS) Research Group has more than 20 years experience in Data Value Chain: collection, analysis and knowledge extraction. Among its research areas, the following ones can be highlighted:

Data analytics: expertise in applying data mining to several domains with special emphasis in the biomedical domain.

Natural language processing: retrieving knowledge from medical texts and Electronic Health Records (mainly) but also applied to other domains (for example: legal domain).

Image analysis: automatic analysis and annotation of medical images, earth observation, remote sensing and others.

Disease understanding: analysis of diseases, their characteristics, relationships, etc.

Summary of Research Services

Data analysis: It is important to highlight that in this line the group does not just stand out for the application of techniques in various types of data and domains, but also for the pre-processing and data enrichment methodology prior to pattern extraction.

Image Processing and Analysis: The group stands out in this field due to its own image merging algorithms and the application of different machine learning techniques, where highlights are Deep Learning to automatic image labelling and analysis. These techniques are being applied to satellite optical images for agricultural use, and in various types of medical imaging.

Natural Language Processing: In this field, MIDAS stands out for developing algorithms to process texts in Spanish. The algorithms have been used particularly in the medical and legal domain.

Technology Capabilities

-Data: Remote sensing Satellites, Drones, Field data, 3D model, Land use and land cover
-Methods: Image Processing, Data Fusion, Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and deep learning algorithms
-Applications: Agricultural management, Water management, Forest fires, Change detection in vulnerable systems.
